History

Legend

The town of Morong was originally known as "Bayandati" which was within the jurisdiction of Nagbalayong. Because the land to be cultivated is too small, the people decided to transfer to other places where there is big and wide land to cultivate. When the Spaniards came to the Philippines, some of them arrived at this place. Some Moro thieves and traders have also gone to this place that's why the town was called "Moron". Moron was established by the Franciscan friars in 1578.

The name "Moron'" was later changed to Morong by the former Congressman of Bataan Jose R. Nuguid in accordance of Republic Act No. 1249 which was approved by the National Assembly on June 10, 1955.

Background

At early times, the main source of income of the people of Morong was fishing, farming and selling in Olongapo and Manila using boats and "paraw". But when Joaquin J. Linao was elected governor of Bataan before World War II, the dream of the people to have a road from Morong to Balanga became a reality in 1969.

Present

Little by little Morong is becoming a progressive town thanks to the men and women of this town who showed their diligence for the improvement and development of Morong. Investors have seen the immense potential of Morong when it comes to business and tourism. The municipality’s accessible location is a definite plus for residential and commercial real estate developers. One can also enter Morong through the Subic International Airport and the Subic and Binanga Port.Morong’s clean and untapped beaches are slowly becoming a choice destination for those who are looking for alternatives to the country’s popular but crowded vacation spots. Investors are planning to build exhibit halls, convention centers, golf courses, hotels and beach resorts in Morong. Plans are also in progress to develop industries such as component parts manufacturing and assembly operations.

The construction of a major road connecting Morong to Balanga will provide access to the various developments in the Bataan Techno Park, which is managed by the Bataan Technology Park Inc. The Bataan Techno Park will become a center for agriculture and aquaculture technology under the management of the Bases Conversion Development Authority.

These developments will bring adequate water and power supply to the municipality, as well as improvement in solid waste and sewerage systems. Basic telecommunication facilities will be established to provide access to the information highway.

Even with the continuous modernization and urbanization, Morong’s native industries remain profitable. A lot of the residents still earn their living from mango and cashew production, vinegar-making and basketry.
